More amateur attempts. My sister in law needs a logo and these were quick mock-ups to give her ideas. I think I like the yellow one the best.

Card Design

I've been diggin the photoshop lately. Here are some amateur attempts at our family Christmas card. I love the red vintage wallpaper one. It actually didn't take long to design. I'm thinking of designing something similar to hang in our house one day! Kind of along the lines of Grandma K's wallpaper- gold swirlies. I love it.

blessing one

A friend wrote a blessing for every week of the year on her blog. I thought it was a great idea and I've just been feeling so blessed lately. So my first and number one blessing is my family. My husband and baby. I am so lucky to have a warm, loving little family. I have teared up many a time watching Thurm & Quinn playing together. I just couldn't ask for anything more than to have those two in my life. You can't imagine before how much love a child brings into a family.

I love this face. I swear I've seen this exact expression on Thurm. Its the "I'm so interested and involved my mouth has dropped open" face.

MY BABY HAS TEETH! He was 5 months old yesterday!!! He has actually had teeth for a month now.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling!

Thurm and I went to SLC this weekend and got the rest of our food storage! YAY! But we don't have much room to store it, so Quinn's room has turned into a storage room. While we were there we visited my grandma and Thurm's sister. I love his sister and always wish we lived closer so we could spend more time with her and her family. On our way home from Provo, we got pulled over for having expired registration. I haven't renewed it because we don't drive our Subaru and have contemplated selling it. But it has bigger trunk room so we took it without thinking. I told the cop our story and she said "you drove 2 hours to go to Costco?" Yeah, everyone in Wendover does. I love how cops like to accuse you of lying and make you feel stupid. Thurm has decided I have authority issues. And I do. Anyway, we have our food storage, basically (we still need to get water). So I'm feeling pretty good about things.

I have had food storage on the brain for about a year now. Recently it has become very urgent feeling. I didn't want to get food storage last year because I didn't want to have to move it in case we got another job. We are very unstable where we are, so I didn't want to hassle with it. But I can't ignore this feeling of urgency anymore. Last weekend we had every intention of getting our whole years supply, but things didn't completely work out. The cannery was out of alot the items I wanted and then we couldn't actually fit everything into our car. I was really disappointed and have felt anxious ever since to get back to SLC and finish.
This feeling of urgency probably has alot to do with the economy and today's elections. Also that the prophets have been warning us for years. But I've felt this for a year now and I know that its been the spirit telling me to get prepared. And I just have a sick feeling in my gut that I might regret ignoring it for the last year.
It's not just me that needs to be prepared, its everyone. I haven't thought about it this way before. I've always thought, if I'm prepared, than my family will be ok. But the thought recently occurred to me that my community needs to be prepared. Especially since we live in an isolated community two hours from anywhere. In an emergency, the Smith's, our only grocery store, will be emptied within hours. But that would probably be the case of most stores anywhere. The community needs to be prepared because there are alot of people who own guns and if they or their children are starving, my food storage is going to be a hot commodity. So for my safety, I need everyone around me to be prepared. So this is a plea to all who reads, go get some food storage TODAY! Buy some water, toilet paper, ramen noodles, whatever.
I always thought as a single girl, I could just drive home to my parents. But what if I can't? What if you can't? And what if they don't have enough for themselves, my family and who ever else shows up at their door. We need to take action for ourselves. In an emergency, Taco Bell isn't going to be open for business and what little food we have in our cupboards isn't going to last long.
This sounds very extreme, I realize, and possibly I'll have this food storage sitting in my house for the next 30 years of my life, like my mother. But on the other hand, I can't imagine the regret I'd feel if my little boy was going hungry.

Halloween!!

This picture has nothing to do with Halloween, I just thought it was funny. Quinn was playing with this ring and it fell on his face. He sat there with it on his face totally unaware, playing with his toes. It was hilarious.

Hobbes

We came up with a brilliant costume for Thurm this year, to shave off his beard. So we decided to go as Ward & June Cleaver (Leave it to Beaver). It was a BIG hit. He went to school today clean shaven, perfectly parted hair, in dress pants, shirt & tie. There were kids that thought he was a substitute, kids hearing the rumors and coming to see during breaks, kids taking pictures of him with their cell phones, mayhem ensued! The adults liked it too. And I loved dressing as June Cleaver. We went to dinner tonight as some friends house and to get into character I baked some bread and made pasta in a skirt with lipstick on : ) Well I was actually dressed up to go over to the school and show off Quinn to Thurm's students. Quinn was Hobbes. Everyone called him tigger. Lame.

Thurm's bread he was so proud of.

My dad's dining room that he is so proud of.

Poky

Went to Poky this weekend to visit my family. Thurm went on a hiking trip with his brother and friends. We were apart the longest we've ever been since we've been married. Five days! Quinn got to play with his cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandparents. My mom was exstatic to see him. She told me she sort of misses me, but REALLY misses Quinn. He loves his grandma. She is alot more expressive and excitable than I am, much more entertaining. I got in some good TV time on the BIG screen. I have to make up for the six years without TV when I am around one. That Project Runway is addictive.

Gnocchi

INGREDIENTS
6 russet potatoes
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 egg, lightly beaten
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pinch salt

DIRECTIONS
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Drop in potatoes and cook until tender but still firm, about 15 minutes. Drain, cool slightly, and peel. Season with salt, then mash potatoes with fork, masher, or in ricer. Place in large bowl, and stir in egg and olive oil. Knead in enough flour to make a soft dough.
On a floured surface, roll dough into a long rope. Cut the rope into 1/2-inch pieces.
Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Drop in gnocchi, and cook until they float to the top, about 3 to 5 minutes. Serve with pasta sauce.

I'm not really a gnocchi connoisseur, but as far as I could tell, this is a good recipe. I used a butter sage sauce on top.

I have had a few scary "baby" moments that have haunted me and that I still think about.
1. When I was 16, I was babysitting my niece. She was sleeping in my bed for the night and I woke up practically laying on top of her. It scared me to death thinking I could have crushed or suffocated her.
2. I was cutting my little nephews fingernails when he was just a few weeks old. He moved his hand at the last second and I cut his finger. It bled like crazy and he cried like I broke his arm. My brother was pretty mad at me, but since then has let me babysit his kids.
3. I was playing with my other niece in a hot tub and I was pretending to be a shark and biting her leg under the water, not realizing I was pulling her head under. When I came up she was sputtering and crying because I almost drown her. My sister-in-law did not look happy.

Now I can add my own baby to list. I put him on the couch to run and grab my flip-flops so we could go on a walk. I heard a thud and knew he had rolled off the couch. I felt terrible. He cried for a few minutes. I cried for a few minutes. And then he smiled at me to reassure me he was Ok. And all my nieces and nephews still seem to love me. Oh to be as forgiving as a child.
